Why does storytelling matter in Indigenous business?

Ever met someone who can turn coffee-fueled chaos, community stories, and Indigenous entrepreneurship into actual connection? Yeah… me too it’s me!
Indigenous business has never just been about selling products. It’s about people, relationships, survival, identity, and community. Storytelling matters because our businesses carry where we come from, who taught us, and why we create in the first place.
A lot of mainstream business focuses only on profit, branding, and algorithms. (Who really masters that thing?) Indigenous entrepreneurship moves differently. There’s meaning behind the work. Whether it’s art, beadwork, workshops, food, or community projects, people connect to authenticity before anything else.
That’s where I help.
I work with artists, organizations, and businesses looking to build stronger community connection through storytelling, Indigenous perspectives, creativity, and authentic representation. Like I always say,
“People can tell when something has spirit behind it… and they can definitely tell when it was made by a community. Not performative just authenticity” - Kit Thomas, Akwesasne Mohawk.
